App Review: NPR News v1.2 Application

The NPR News App for Android just got juiced up with a myriad of new features. The newest version has taken one of the most popular news apps available and made it even better. The new features will surprise and delight the current user and make those that were debating it, jump at the chance to download it.

The newest version of this app allows for live streaming of 1000 NPR channels from 600 NPR stations including on air, HD and on demand streams. User can access such programs as Morning Edition and Car Talk at the touch of a button. The app has been upgraded to also include a playlist option.

The playlist option gives the user the ability to select and create lists of favorites to be played back. The book marking feature allows for easy locating of the saved channels by placing them all in an easy to read menu. This helps to cut down on the channel surfing time when searching out your favorites and keeps them well organized.

The new backgrounding feature insures that there is no interruption in the listening while using other apps on the phone. The Listen and Read feature is yet another way the new app allows for reading of the news while listening to it at the same time. They have also added an extensive topics section showcasing the top 10 to 20 news stories of the day.

NPR has also announced that they will release the open source code for this app on March 1st. This will allow outside developers and current NPR stations to give their input on improving the app. For the news junkies out there, this is definitely the app to have and it can be found and downloaded in the Android App Store by simply searching NPR News.
