Apple, the manufacturers of the most popular smart phone on the planet, is on the way to court versus HTC. HTC, one of the largest manufacturers of Android phones, has been accused of patent infringement on over 20 of Apple’s patents. The suit will include such things as Apple’s User Interface, software layering, along with some hardware patent infringements.

The official complaint, found here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/27724245/Apple-HTC-Complaint-U-S-ITC, is attempting to show that HTC has in some way, shape, or form “borrowed” Apple’s ideas. This complaint encompasses everything from how the phones work to which way they operate programs. The entire official complaint is a bit lengthy but that is how legalese is.
Apple seems to be targeting particularly the Hero, Droid Eris and the Nexus One in their complaint. The other phones in question are the HTC Magic, the myTouch 3G, and the HTC Dream. They are basically saying that only they know how to build smartphones and HTC has simply taken their ideas and repackaged them.
One has to wonder why all of the sudden, Apple has decided to go on the offensive against HTC. The buzz on the Internet is that the competition from Google is becoming too much for them to handle. If this is the case and Apple is feeling the bite that is being taken out of them by Android users, this move makes some sense.
The complaint respectfully requests that a cease and desist order be placed against HTC in the import and sale of their phones in the United States. While no one is sure how this is going to pan out, it should be an interesting watch. For the moment, however, HTC is still continuing on their path of providing some of the best Android phones on the market to users the world over.

I hope HTC and Google stomps to Apple and gets out of this without having to pay too much.
