Google and Partners Shipping 60k Handsets In A Day

Posted on 18 February 2010 by admin

Google is doing its level best to catch up to Apple, of that there is no doubt. The last reports show that Google and its partners are shipping 60,000 handsets a day. This is to say, every day, not just one day that happened to be a busy one in the shipping department.

Android Phones

There is no clarification if these are units that are shipped to retailers or to the end users but can you imagine? That is 60,000 units a day, every day, week after week. Anyone who ever doubted that the growing popularity of the Android platform or wondered if the Android was just a “flash in the pan” may now rest easy.

To put this in perspective, Apple shipped 8.7 iPhones last quarter and if this number is a true average, then this means that Google shipped about 5.4 million in the same time frame. This being said, can there be any doubt to validity in the claim that Android will be the second most popular platform by 2012?

Goggle is advancing by leaps and bounds in the Android market and seems only to be getting stronger. Their app store is growing exponentially and with the addition of the new SDK for download, the world can look forward to even more apps in the near future. While it is not yet the size of Apple’s inventory, the last year has seen it grow immensely and there are no signs of it slowing down.

Look out Apple for Google may just run up and take a serious bite out of you. Their increasing market share, which better than doubled last year, is a huge indicator of things to come. This, coupled with their affiliates, will make Google a force to be reckoned with a whole lot sooner than later.
