Nexus One coming to Wal-Mart soon

Posted on 26 January 2010 by admin

Google wasn't exactly ecstatic about the tepid sales for the first week sales of 20,000 for the Nexus One (reported and rumored quite a bit to be the real sales figure for the Nexus's first week, which is ok but not great really). But those figures could change big time, with a Walmart ad sighted on the website saying it's "coming soon" to one of the largest retailers on Earth.

It's the kind of crossover the phone could need to cross into the "mainstream" and take Android as an OS with its momentum. Even the G1 got little promotion or airplay in larger retailers, so this could make the diufference for sales success.

Right now only Google and T-Mobile have the Nexus One available in the US, though to be fair, Verizon is supposedly going to carry the smartphone sometime in mid-2010, but even that may pale in comparison to being carried by a huge retailer like Wal-Mart, where millions that normally wouldn't be exposed to the Nexus One will see it, drool over it (hopefully) and meet Google's sales expectations.

No info about exactly when it will start selling, and for what price, but both of those factors could dictate how well it does, and how much momentum it carries into the end of the year sales goals, which we imagine Google has set quite high. We'll update you about sales of the unit when it does go on sales eventually.
