Everyone loves free apps; it is just a fact of a Smartphone user’s life. There comes a time, however, when a certain “must have” app comes along and it costs money to download. The majority of people can usually find a free version that will do what they want, but it may not have all the bells and whistles necessary to make it as perfect as a paid version of the same basic app.

AdMob has conducted a new survey that pits Android users against iPhone users for apps, both paid and free, that each group downloads on a monthly basis. Both groups were found to average downloading nine new apps per week for various uses. The iPhone users as it turned out, are much more willing to fork over money for an app over the Android users.
The iPhone users were found to download 37% more paid apps than the Android users. One can only speculate as to why. Is it possible that Apple paid apps are of the same caliber as many of the free apps available for Android?
The majority of Android users surveyed believe this is true as the open platform of many of the Android apps allow them to be made in to a much more useful app. This is reflected for apps that each group buys per month. 50% of the iPhone users surveyed download at least one paid app per month as opposed to the 21% of Android users from the same sized group.
One other portion of the survey was to find out which group would recommend their phone to a friend or family member. 91% of the iPhone and iTouch users surveyed said they would recommend their device as opposed to the 84% of Android users that would do the same. One thing that may be gleaned from this 963 person survey is that Smartphone's, as a whole, are becoming the “cannot live without” device to own no matter the brand of choice.
