QwikList Voice: Talk Rather Than Type

Posted on 06 February 2010 by admin

Taking the time out of a busy day to open an app and type notes or appointments can be frustrating at best. The newest app from Vikas Shah allows for lists to be made along with the ability to add items to Google calendar. There is also the option to send SMS messages through Google Voice using this app ands all of this may be accomplished by simply speaking into the phone.

The app is available on Shah’s website: http://www.shahlab.org/home/apps for $0.99 along with complete, detailed instructions on its use. The Android phones that this may be used on must support speech to text, so make sure that yours does before purchasing this app. This is one of the best solutions available for speeding up the day and getting even more form your Android phone.

The app can be placed on the Home Screen for quick access with two widget sizes to choose from. The first one at 1x1 only allows for the app to be opened and speech recorded while the 2x2 will give you the option to scroll through lists that you have created to link the app to. The option to choose between which size widget fits you best is a big plus to this app.

There is one more bonus feature to this app that is very convenient to have. There is a built in bar code reader, allowing for items to be added to a shopping list or a saved list to compare prices online at a later time for bargain hunters. The app overall is very simple to use and can save quite a bit of time, circumventing the need for typing.

For those on the go Android users, this app is made to order. The ability to type less and talk more can only be a plus to anyone who chooses to use this. The time saved alone is worth a closer look.

I tried the application on my HTC Hero and it looked great, but I couldn’t use the speech recognition feature. Is there anything I could do to use speech-to-text in my device? Thanks
