On September 16, Samsung plans to hold an event to release a new Android device and introduce a service called Media Hub. Media Hub is a customized video and movie store designed for the company’s Galaxy S phones. Few facts are known about the Android device that will soon hit the streets.

The AT&T Captivate, Sprint Epic 4G, and T-Mobile Vibrant are a few of the Galaxy S phones that will be able to use Media Hub. Verizon Wireless will be releasing the Fascinate in upcoming weeks. Cellular South and US Cellular also have Galaxy S phones planned for release. Samsung may be hoping that access to Media Hub causes a customer to purchase one of its phones instead of those offered by the competition.
Media Hub allows a user to select movies and television shows from a collection. Movies and shows can be rented for approximately $3 per day and purchased for between $12 and $20 per day. This pricing is compatible with that of similar services within the industry. Samsung says the files will feature progressive downloading. Users will be able to begin watching the video prior to the file being fully downloaded. The files will also be custom-encoded so they will have the highest quality when viewed on various devices.
As far as the Android device goes, some speculate that it may be an additional Galaxy S phone. Others think it may be the 7-inch tablet computer developed by Samsung. The Galaxy Tab is scheduled for launch at the IFA trade show in Berlin on September 2.
We may have to wait until September 16 to learn more about the Android device. We know a bit more about Media Hub. However, we are not aware of the number of television show and movie titles included in its library.
