In November 2009, Gowalla finally extended its reach beyond the iPhone app with a version of the app that worked on the Android platform and its browser. It was a decent first attempt at the web app but had some very noticeable limitations, which creator Josh Williams accepted because the company was working on a native, full Android version that was to be released in the near future. That time is now, it appears.

The Android Market hasn't yet been graced with this app, but Gowalla has released an early beta version of the Android app to its most dedicated users, and feedback has been very solid up until this point, if early comments are any indication.
Williams posted regarding the new app a few days ago on their site, and stated that: “Technically, we are calling this beta release 0.1. We will release a more fully featured beta to the Marketplace before the end of the month.”
Since it’s not in the Market yet, you can only get the app by visiting this link on your phone, which we've provided for you: http://static.gowalla.com/gowalla-android-20100212.apk
It should be noted that you have to have your device set to install "non-Market apps" for it to install successfully. The basic procedure for this is: Menu -> Settings -> Applications, then check the “Unknown sources” checkbox, and you're all set.
