Some Free Apps to Check out on the Droid

Posted on 07 February 2010 by admin

Apps are the driving force for the new smarthphones and while there is a fee for many of them, there are just as many that will not cost a penny. They may not be as advanced as they pay apps, but there are plenty of entertaining games and useful Google gadgets that can be put on the phone for free in a matter of seconds.

Bonsai Blast

Bonsai Blast
It may not be Bejeweled, but this game will surely keep you entertained when you cannot fall asleep or are riding shotgun on the way into work. This game is somewhat of an off take of the popular game, but the difference is that it is for free. The graphics are amazingly good for a freebie and it is surprisingly challenging. If Bejeweled or Tetris are not on your phone, get this app.

Google Sky Map 1.2.1
Not really sure how useful this app is, but it’s cool. If you have ever wondered what the stars above you were called or what is up there in general, this is the answer. The program syncs up with the GPS in the phone and gives a snapshot of what the sky above you is all about. Unless you are an astronomer, it may get a bit confusing at times, but regardless, this is a pretty neat little app.

Meebo IM 21
Social networking and IMing are a must these days and this is a great IM program that connects pretty much regardless of the platform that you use. It works with the likes of Yahoo, AIM, MSN and also supports MySpace and Facebook. This is a pretty advanced app for a freebie and just as good as the programs that either force a membership or charge for the download.

SportsTap 2.3.1
You want sports, you got it! Anyone who downloads this app is going to be tapped into every major sporting event that they can imagine. It does not matter the venue or the time, SportsTap is going to have a constant flow of scores and sports stories that will keep the sports nut in you satisfied.
