It appears someone jumped the gun a bit in terms of the fresh new Android 2.1 update issued for the popular Droid phone. It turns out that someone there got a bit ahead of themselves, and announced it sooner than they should have. Nothing like Android for creating endless turnabouts and drama in the tech world, surpassing even iPhone in some cases.

Motorola's own official Facebook page displayed a post announcing that the Droid would be getting the 2.1 update this week earlier, everyone got excited, thinking of all the little usability improvements packed into the update. The company explained later on that it was NOT in fact scheduled for release this week, and popular blog BGR reiterated the news.
BGR stated that "according to Matt, forums manager over at Motorola, the information was prematurely released" and that "the DROID update page on Motorola's website has been pulled and all links to the update page have been deleted from the forums."
Well, so much for all that excitement. Suffice it to say that the update will be "coming soon", so don't get too down. The Droid will soon enough get that all-important, all-cool 2.1 goodness.
