Yesterday we brought you the news that Verizon was finally going to bring Droid users into the inner circle by giving them a much needed upgrade to Android 2.1. This OTA update was to take place Thursday at noon in batches of 250,000 users at a time. It looks as though Verizon has dropped the ball yet again on this update.

This update was to bring some much-desired features to Droid users that felt they were being shortchanged. The Live Wallpaper along with the new look 3D interface was to be a welcome change to the standard UI they deal with now. Verizon will have more than a few disgruntled Droid users to deal with if they cannot get this update off the ground.
There is no official date as to when this is now supposed to happen either. An internal memo from Verizon that was leaked to the net simply states that it is “TBD”. They go on to say that the new date for the OTA update will be “communicated as soon as possible”. Droid users can only hope that this is actually the case.
Since noon has come and gone and no one received the update, Verizon has likely been flooded with inquiries as to exactly what happened. There is no official response as to why it has been delayed again or when it may tentatively be coming to fruition as promised. This is the third such delay from Verizon on this particular update.
Droid users everywhere are simply going to have to wait yet again for their new features and enhanced capabilities. As has been stated, there is no definite date of any kind released at the time of this posting. Verizon likely will release some type of real notification in the very near future.
