well alot of times a phone will let you delete contacts actually all the time so my guess is to go to options then press delete. i could be wrong though.’

      dumba**

    3. Naresh Says:

You can delete using a free app called delete contacts search for “Delete Contacts” in Android market and install the program
      http://www.gizmoji.com/mobiles/delete-contacts-tool-for-your-android-phone

    4. Jeff Says:

      Thanks Naresh,
searched the market and found Remove Contacts. Worked perfectly!!

    5. Oltean Says:

Or you can use, Samsung PC Studio, and sync with a deleted phonebook, but Naresh’s solution is much faster.

    6. Dave Says:

Yeah Chris, you are wrong and you are a dumbass.

This is bloody annoying. My contacts consisted of every single person I’d ever send an email to since opening my Gmail account.

Is it just me or was this a retarded idea on the part of Google/Android/The developers?

    7. Jill Says:

Dave, one option is to go to Contacts ->Display options-> and check the box “Only contacts with phones”

‘delete contacts’ app worked great on a Samsung galaxy s.
Want your palm contacts over to android?
      1. Export from palm to vcard on the palm (not.csv… doesn’t work on extensive lists, ie. 900+)
      2. Import using vCardIO app – which prompts for OI File manager app download.(which is quite useful to just view the guts of the entire phone & sd cards – hint put a * wildcard in the text box and nav anywhere!

Thank you for this suggestion. I had minor trouble restoring contacts after updating to Android 2.1 and ended up with every contact duplicated in the phone. The Delete All Contacts app from Android Market took care of that and I simply restored my saved contacts again from my backup. :)

Thanks Andy! I was having a bad headache after restoring my contacts with dejaoffice and then having to restore again with VCard IO, only to find out I had my contacts tripled! I deleted all contacts with numbers as usual but then there was no way to remove all emails at once!!
your directions were of great help! thanks a billion!!

Just got a LG Vortex with android operating system and all my facebook contacts are in my phone now. I know there are apps to delete all contacts but i just want to delete some of them. When i try to delete them it says it cant delete them because they are read only but says they can be hidden so it does but i want them off my phone…is there an app do edit or just delete some of the contacts????

    23. LAB Says:

I tried deleting a few contacts from my phone but because it is linked to my google account, when I went to my email account the same contacts were deleted there! Is there a way to delete all contacts from the phone without losing the contacts from my gmail account? So far Jill’s option seems the best but I would really just like to get rid of the contacts all together.

    24. Heidi Says:

with google fone u cant delete all u have to delete them one at a time or u can go to a t mobile store and tell them

    25. turing Says:

Thanks Andy, your suggestion worked perfectly. I definitely like the no-app solution and couldn’t remember where I’d found my whopping 18MB contact file before.

LAB, if you delete the contacts on your phone and then have your Google Account re-sync your contacts, all the contacts in your gmail account will be re-loaded on your phone.

    26. brad Says:

thanks andy, your post really helped.
