I want to get a backflip (or a blackberry) but I don't wanna get it in an AT&T store. So I'm gonna get one on eBay so i don't have to pay the 30$ Extra per month. Will that work? I know the backflip is an android and it looks like the homescreen is constantly on the Internet. Will I get charged for that?

There is no way around the data plan. It is required regardless of where you bought the phone, unlocked or not. If you don’t add the data plan, AT&T will add it to your account as soon as their network detects that you are using a smartphone…

when you go and activate your blackberry or backflip they require you sign up for a data plan or a data add on package.. they might not be as high as 30 a month ask about the add on instead of the actual data plan.. but theres no way to not have an internet plan and so yeah when you go on the internet youre still gonna have to pay for it because you can buy the phone off ebay but ur gonna have to activate it at your store .. theyre a real pain about making sure u pay for the internet theres really no way around it.. with sprint there is but you have at&t.. if you have any ?s email them

If you get the phone separately from AT&T, you can opt to only have voice/sms service with the phone. But to get online with the internet without a data plan you’ll have to use the wifi connection if the phone supports it.

Okay, same question thought but lets be clear, so if i get the backflip UNLOCKED ON EBAY, theyll want to charge me the 15 bucks for data even though i bought it on ebay?????? Lets say they dont (THEY PROBABLY WILL!), will i be able to acces the internet through it is wifi capabilities (which i know it has) even though there is no data plan
