I have a Samsung Galaxy from O2 Germany. The problem is, when I make a call, immediately the screen locks and light goes off/dim . When I unlock the screen by pressing the menu button, I am getting the menu, from which I get the keyboard. But, when I press the numbers in the keyboard it is working. However all other function such as Hold call / End call / Speaker from the menu are working.
For instance, when I make an US visa appointment through phone, I have to press the numbers during the call to select an appropriate service.
I contacted the O2 shop, and they told it is the android software problem. I would be very helpful for me if any have any idea/solution.
Thanks,
Sashi
Regarding the answer: The latest version of the Android OS firmware resolves this problem, and when on a call, a small tab appears at the bottom of the screen which reads "Dial Pad" (or something like that anyway).
Thanks for your reply. In my version, I am getting the "Dial Pad" tab during the call, but it is not working when I pull upwards to get the dial pad. However, sometimes it is working if the screen did not get dim when I make a call.
thanks,
Sashi

The update to your phone should be sent to you over the network by O2, so you need to get back in touch with them and ask them when they plan to send out that update (which is definitely available)

I too have this problem. I cannot get the dial pad to rise from the tab and if I do it through the menu button I cannot enter a number in. This is the second Galaxy that I have had that does this (I return the first in 30 day return policy). My operator, Bell Canada has had me pull the battery, and then asked me to do a factory reset. It will work for a couple of hours some times but then back to the same persistent problem. There is no update as far as Samsung Canada is concerned.

Looking else where it would seem this issue is with the proximity sensor in the handset. This sensor is to turn off the dial pad while it is up to your face and allow it to turn on when it is not. You can check the sensors by dialing *#*#0*#*#*. Mine starts ok, but will not come off when I take my hand away. One person blew compressed air into the earpiece and successfully fix it as this is right by the sensor. I may try the same. Screen protectors may also interfere with this sensor.
