Should I buy the new Google Nexus One phone or an unlocked iphone.?

Posted on 03 February 2010 by admin

I am on the Tmobile network. I use Macs at home and the office...
Can't decide on the Google Nexus ( I think my contract allows me to buy it for $200.00)
or a used unlocked iphone for $350.00 to $600.00. I'm not in to gaming, just the web and emails...

I am using the iphone, and i love it, but I work for tmobile and the iphone will not work with tmobiles 3G network. So the internet will be slow (only EDGE network). Nexus one is supposed to be faster than both the iphone 3gs and the moto droid. only thing the iphone has over the nexus one is multitouch on the touch screen

Which ever lets you spend the least in the long term. Project those numbers out 24 months and go to bed knowing what you are going to buy. Have a good night sleep.

Both devices will give you a good user experience…

holding one in each hand I definitely liked the feel of the Nexus better. I feel like the edge of the iPhone is not the most finger friendly in comparison. and I don’t really like the rounded back.

function wise I got a little lost in the Nexus One user interface, but that is probably just because I am waaaay more used to the iPhone UI.

First, regardless which you choose, if you are indeed near your contract renewal, then you’re under the 365-day limit on switching to the new T-Mobile unsubsidized pricing which is $20/mo less than the regular plans. By switching, you can never go back to getting subsidized phones but you get that $480 over two years to do with what you want. So do that now, whatever you decide. (There’s a $35 fee involved that can be waived if you have an AAA membership.)

Now, on to the comparison. The “unlock” process on the IPhone is apparently the source of *some* people’s trouble with network stability with the IPhone. So, it’s not really fair to compare IPhone on T-Mobile to Nexus One on T-Mobile. If they ever get back to a stable unlock, that would change things.

Having said all that, the phones are basically the same in terms of “usability”–they are both easy to use with a nice UI. Hardware wise, the Nexus One has a better screen (2.66x as many pixels), better camera, faster CPU and graphics processor, and user-removable battery and flash storage. The IPhone leads in number of apps: 100,000 to Android’s 20,000. However, Android’s tend to be of better quality (due to the absence of the gold rush phenomenon.)

In summary, because you’re on T-Mobile, the Nexus is the best choice. If it were a AT&T IPhone versus T-Mobile Nexus One, it would be a closer battle but Nexus One would edge out due to better hardware. When the IPhone 4th gen. is out, this will all be different, of course. :) Perhaps you should wait until Apple’s press conference at the end of January before you decide.

I got both, and I like the Nexue One more. Unfortunately, I have AT&T so it uses only Edge so I don’t do much web browsing unless I’m near an access point. You don’t have to worry about that since you have T-Mobile.

The Nexus has voice recognition, which is way superior to the iPhone’s voice recognition. I tell it to play a song, and it can’t even play the right song. With the Nexus, I can use voice recognition for email, and it actually gets it right.

      Nexus also has voice GPS.

The downside to the Nexus is that the keyboard screen’s letters are very small. If you have big fingers, you’ll probably touch a lot of letters that you didn’t mean to. It’s also a lot more complicated to use than the iPhone. You need to play around before you get the hang of it.

when in doubt i think it is always best to ask a professional who not only markets hardware but also services.
i personally recommend the I-PHONE though but i think its best you get advice from the source itself

I wouldn’t trust the nexus one just yet, i saw some reviews on the phone, it’s okay, it’s not like the iphone where it’s been out for few years. so i am suspecting a lot of bugs still exists in nexus one

tough question… unlocked nexus one costs $530 but I would still say buying unlocked iPhone 3GS is better

Nexus One hardware is unreliable and easily broken. If you have no problems then 3G alone makes it worth while getting the Nexus One. However, I and many others have had major hardware problems. This would be OK if HTC had even average support. HTC support is terrible. For instance, you have to shell out $530 for a swap (they will refund once your return is checked in). The power button is very cheap and easily broken. They will not warranty repair that (at least they didn’t for me). Let the buyer beware.
