Why would it do such a thing?

    2. DDinTV Says:

Everything Apple does is proprietary. Therefore, ITunes will only recognize an IPod. For a while, Palm was producing a hack which would allow ITunes to recognize the Pre, but Apple quickly figured the hack and patched it, so no more.

If you want to sync your ITunes library to a non-Apple device, you might want to try a third-party program like Media Monkey. This program imports your ITunes library and syncs it to your player, just as ITunes does with an IPod, and Media Monkey is a freebie.
