You think its worth it to pay full retail price for the motorola droid?

Posted on 24 April 2010 by admin

My phone is broken and have no insurance on it. I really want the motorola droid, but I still have a long ways to go till my contract is up. Is it worth it to pay full retail price for the phone which is $599 or should I just buy a cheap one and see if I could tough it out.

I love my Droid, and if it weren’t for the Google Nexus one for Verizon getting ready to be released “just around the corner” – March 23 is the rumor, if I were in your position, I’d do it, HOWEVER, with the imminent release of the Nexus One, I’d see if I could scrounge up someone’s used phone for a couple weeks.

You might consider seeing if you can find a used one for cheaper if you like the Droid – and Verizon might at least give you a $100 rebate card or something if you do go with the Droid. I suspect there will be at least a *few* used Droids popping up after the Nexus One gets released… I’ll probably stick with my Droid, since I have absolutely ZERO complaints with it (It’s rooted, running Android 2.1), but that doesn’t mean I won’t be tempted by that AMOLED screen on the Nexus :)

I have an iPhone. I love it. However, I’d never pay full price for it. Not ever – and I can easily afford it. The technology changes so quickly, these phones are obsolete before you’ve had them for 6 months. Get something cheap and tough it out. You’re eligible for an upgrade at 20 months. By then, there will probably be tons of new smart phones at Verizon.
