This is a first look at Eclair for the Motorola Cliq that leaked yesterday. This isn't the official release. So far so good in my opinion. The phone is still a tad laggy, and with the lack of multitouch, pinch to zoom and flash, the Cliq will have a long way to go before it can catch up to the other Android powerhouses. As per request. Here is how I downgrade my Captivate to the factory Android 2.1 version (Eclair). I have return one of my phones to AT&T like this and there was no problem with warranty. ++ Look at my other videos on how to unlock the SIM and how to install non-Market apps on any Galaxy S phone. --- Look at my other video on how to upgrade to Android Ver 2.2 (Froyd) ** Look at my other video that I did comparing 2.1 vs 2.2 on my Captivate . **** Here is one of the places you could find the original Samsung Android 2.1 -it is easy to restore to the original state. You will need to find and download this ROM (file): I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0.rar There are a few places on the web, here is one I i used: www . multiupload.com/8FL4J28GWO Just follow my video. It should only take you about 5 to 7 minutes. I am not sure , but I don't think that you need the USB drivers to install this 2.1 ROM. When you put you phone on the download mode (by pressing the Vol button (- and +) while connecting your USB cable to the PC. The ODIN 3 Windows program will automatically connects to the phone and all you have to do is to press Start. Wait until finish and reboot. It should even restart (reboot) 2 times. Watch the video and good luck. PS- THIS ANDROID 2.1 ROM IS FOR AT&T GALAXY S CAPTIVATE PHONE ONLY. I AM NOT SURE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU INSTALL ON OTHER GALAXY S PHONES. Looks like Verizon's Motorola Droid isn't gonna be the 1st phone to have Android 2.0!!! =D Well, this is actually the Android 2.0 SDK ported (very roughly) over to the G1/Dream from Akira Harada. All props go to him and the great things he's doing for the Android community =) If you're excited as I am for Android 2.0 Eclair then this is a great way to get a preview of what it will be like (not necessarily how it will perform). As soon as Cyanogen gets the source code he will cook up a fully functional ROM again, BIG UPS to Akriah for making this preview possible. =) Once again, this is just a PREVIEW. There are NO Google apps, NO Market, NO way of installing apps... Its just so you can get a FEEL for the look and some of the features of 2.0 Eclair. =) As you can see from the video, visually, some things have changed. I feel like Google makes their stuff open source to see what other people do with it, then they kinda "bite off" other's improvements. For instance, some of the new icons are very similar to HTC's skinning of Android using Sense UI. The new 2.0 also has almost the same transition animation when returning to the home screen as Hero. The same green highlights can also be found strewn about the new firmware update. Now, they are taking a lot of the features from Moto Blur and having a sort of Universal inbox and integrating a lot of social networking sites into your contacts.
