Hi, I need some serious help. I connected my computer to wireless tether but now I cannot connect to my home network or any of the neighbors networks wirelessly. I can still connect to the wireless tether but no home networks. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    2. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@thetechgeneration are you in a good service area? Speeds on tethering will be decided by your 3G Signal

    3. thetechgeneration Says:

@JohnPariahPWX i have the same thing, but it is so damn slow

    4. CoCMember Says:

You make a password by opening the app. press your phones menu key. Select wifi encryption. Then there’s password options under that. My wifi is named and locked with password :)

@40RLH agreed, the one reason I rooted my Droid X. Just be careful. Since Verizon offers wireless tethering for the DX-they can bust you hard.

I have Wireless Tether on my Rooted Droid Incredible. My son’s iPod and wife’s Laptop work great with it. The nicest feature,…. it’s free,…. no additional cost. This app alone makes Rooting worth it.

    7. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@justoeasy unfortuantly, Wireless Tether doesnt allow you to set a password up.

    8. justoeasy Says:

how do you set the password?

    9. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@miamiironwarrior oh thats why. Z4Root doesn’t work with HTC Devices. try an app called unrEVOked.

    10. miamiironwarrior Says:

i’m using an HTC EVO 4G

    11. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@miamiironwarrior what device are you on?

    12. miamiironwarrior Says:

uninstalled wife tether ran the permanent root reinstalled wife tether but still says unable to start tethering. am i missing something?

    13. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@miamiironwarrior Uninstall wireless tether. Run z4root and permanently root your phone. Reinstall wireless tether, and it should work like a charm.

    14. miamiironwarrior Says:

downloaded the z4root but my wifi app says unable to start tethering. should i get a different wifi hotspot app?

    15. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@miamiironwarrior droid life has the most recent APK version that I know of…droid-life . com and do a search for Z4Root.

    16. miamiironwarrior Says:

is there a specific website i should download it from or any site is fine? any you recommend?

    17. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@miamiironwarrior do a search from your PHONES BROWSER for z4root. download the APK file to your phone OTA, and install + run it.

    18. miamiironwarrior Says:

so with a mac there is no way to root my htc evo or do i download the z4root pak from the google site on my actual device?

    19. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@miamiironwarrior via the computer. unless you’re running a Windows runtime enviroment, no.

download z4root onto your phone. do a google search for “z4root android apk”, and download it to the phone, and run it. it works on pretty much any non HTC device, and will Root (temporary or permanent, your choice.) I use a Mac, and my Droid X is rooted via z4 and it works marvelously.

    20. miamiironwarrior Says:

is there a way to root with a mac?

    21. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@folkeroRGC actually for smartphones its $20 for 2gb. The 20$ for 1GB is for the aircards / Tablets.

They’ve always been able to detect tethering. It’s not so much detecting TETHERING, as monitoring your data usage. They have smart people working for them, who can put 2 and 2 together when all of a sudden you go from using a 1gb per month to 7gb per month for no reason.

    22. folkeroRGC Says:

Verizon now detect wifi and usb tethering… you should buy broadband conect pack for use it. US$20.00 for 1GB data transfer :(

    23. JohnPariahPWX Says:

@SilkyJohnson25 you shouldnt HAVE too flash it, no…

    24. SilkyJohnson25 Says:

I’m trying to get that app to work. Im rooted and my computer finds the device via wifi but it wont let me connect to the internet. It shows them as paired but no connectivity… Do i need to download that kernel it states before it will let me connect? thanks

    25. JohnPariahPWX Says:

      @isaacsediqa you know, i don’t see why not…..but i’ve never tried.
