How I failed my first attempt to upgrade Samsung Galaxy S to Froyo (Android 2.2)

Posted on 19 November 2011 by admin

Update (1 Nov 2010): Reinstalled my #GalaxyS Froyo thru Odin bit.ly also applied OneClickLagFix & CircleFix. So much happier now (me & my phone :) Tried the get the Froyo (Android 2.2) upgrade for my Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) using the registry hack, however my first attempt failed. The second attempt worked but not happy with the upgrade. I will either downgrade back to Android 2.1 and wait for the official release for my region or try one more time... Will post news, hassles and any resources I followed or found worth noting to my blog: www.macadux.com

I will buy this phone tomorrow. It will probably come with 2.1 eclair. I want to upgrade it. The best way is via kies, isn’t it? Should I upgrade to 2.2 or 2.3? Also, if I upgrade to 2.3 via kies, will I be able to root it and use superuser? Help please..

Good vid. I did this about 7-8 days ago. I used the same web page as you to reg hack phone and ugrade to froyo. I am on tmobile UK. Phone now showing. Firmware version 2.2 / Baseband version I9000XXJPM / Build number FROYO.XWJP6 All features work correcty, even Swype, no random vibrates, phone is really fast and manages apps better. TBH i wanted a lot more from this update and can only hope I get what I want from Gingerbread around XMAS, which will prob be end jan /feb release.

@WrittlesCave Hey, thanks. I’m in Slovakia… Yes, I’ll do one showing Froyo (while grumbling over nonfunctional Swype :-D

    9. WrittlesCave Says:

Whoa I love swype so I will miss that for sure. I am out shopping now, but I will have a look at your blog when I get home.

What country are you in? Youre english is really good.

Any chance of an updated video showing froyo?

      Regards Paul.

@WrittlesCave Thx. Well, as I’ve mentioned in updates (in description & my blog), I tried again & it worked! My Galaxy S was very slow but after a while (few restarts) it is back to speed. Still this Froyo upgrade seems minor, not major. Had to install Flash (from Market), got a few more buttons here & there (colored for settings), screen rotation lock, USB tethering. But Google Maps with Nav still only for US!?, Swype keyboard nonfunctional now! & Still prefer & use LauncherPro over TouchWiz.

    11. WrittlesCave Says:

Well that was informative, and I congratulate you for trying, saves me doing it!. What a shame it didn’t work, but you get maximum points for actually playing with the registry and trying. How disappointed you must be as am I. Still waiting here in teh UK for the official upgrade.
