Posted on 02 August 2010 by admin

Robot View is an app for the Android phone that allows one to easily create 3D views of the world. Think Google Street View creation in the palm of your hands. The app uses OpenGL, accelerometers, compass, GPS and the on board camera to automatically construct pseudo mosaic 3D panoramas. Started off as an experiment in augmented reality. by the vegan robot. Available on the android market as a time limited beta! visit botview.appspot.com for a peek at a sharing app for the rooms that robot view creates...

mate I think you’re a genius… this is the best app on the android platform.. can’t wait to see stitching improved and sharing via the phone improved…

(best would be if it automatically grabbed and sticked as you panned around)

Cool! It’s like mobile Photosynth for Android. If only Microsoft would release their version… Naw, that’ll never happen.

This app is perfect for people trying to show off various rooms of their house online when in the process of selling a home.

i tried this on the X10 and i cant get it to work nearly as good as that…

Really cool idea. My images aren’t lining up well though. Is this something that would basically be best set on a tripod and rotated? Also, do angled shots affect the stitching? I just tried to do the room I’m in and the results aren’t very good.

    10. IndieArmy Says:

Cool app. Was wondering if there are any plans to make the review photos transparent so it is easier to line up the next shot?

@theveganrobot used to work my htc hero, which is on android 1.5, until i updated lately and now it force closes when i click on the camera button, hopefully the problems get fixed, this is the best application i got, also am using the uk htc hero,

I think it would be cool if you could somehow put up a an additional “real-time” mode of input. That is, instead of sequential taking of images, you’d just feed data continually – similar to recording a video or using a hand scanner. But that’s just my pipe dream probably for now..

    17. ericpid Says:

I’ve used it to recreate a room and it worked beautifully. Do you need testing assistance of any sort?

    18. theveganrobot Says:

We’re working on something like that. Hopefully soon, maybe by new years.

    19. greennmonster Says:

After creating the room view on the android phone, can you download the “room” to your computer and upload to a blog?

    20. theveganrobot Says:

The app assumes you are standing still. To make a virtual tour, you would have to create multiple rooms, separately. We are working on a sharing feature, that will allow for uploading of rooms, and viewing them from a web browser.

    21. ericpid Says:

The beta is free, just found out.

      Question:
After you’ve made the 3d pan of your lab, if you were to walk to the next room and create another 3d pan in the same file, would it work? As in would you be able to create a virtual tour with multiple rooms?

Do you know at what point there are to many pictures and it gets lagy/buggy?

    22. ericpid Says:

      My god.
I’m getting a Droid in 2 days and waiting is painful.

      Is Robot View Beta free?
It looks like once there’s some contrast blending it’ll be near perfect.

    23. garrrrrrrrrret Says:

      RAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    24. theveganrobot Says:

It on the market now, under Robot View Beta, by the vegan robot. Pls test if you can. I’ve only tested on Droid so let me know if it works on other phone models…
